ABB REF541KM118AAAA Terminal protection control device

ABB REF541KM118AAAA Feeder Terminal Protection Control Device

[Product Positioning]
REF541KM118AAAA is ABB RELION ® The highest functional level (Multi, M-level) feeder terminal in the series belongs to the core bay level equipment of ABB substation automation system. Model interpretation: REF541 is a feeder terminal series, K represents the switchgear panel installation type (Kabinett), M represents the highest functional level of Multi, 118 is the hardware version (belonging to the 115/118/127/129/133 series), AAAA represents the configuration of auxiliary power supply and current input. This device integrates multifunctional protection, programmable logic control, measurement monitoring, and multi protocol communication into a single 250mm wide panel mounted chassis. It is a digital integrated alternative to traditional electromechanical relays, independent protection devices, PLCs, and communication gateways, targeting medium voltage distribution system scenarios that require high reliability protection and interval automation.

ABB REF541KM118AAAA Terminal protection control device

[Core Function]
This device simultaneously undertakes tasks such as feeder protection, transformer protection, motor protection, capacitor bank protection, measurement monitoring, and sequence control. Built in dual processor architecture: one processor is dedicated to ultra fast protection algorithms (with a trip time of less than 16 milliseconds), while the other processor manages communication, HMI interaction, and data recording, without preempting resources. The protection function blocks are independent of each other, each with its own set of fixed values and data records, and do not affect each other. In addition to protection, measurement, control, and status monitoring, REF541KM118AAAA also provides PLC programmable logic capacity for 200 IEC 61131-3 functional blocks, which can integrate the automation and sequential logic control required for substation automation into one device, greatly reducing the need for on-site hard wiring. The combination of LON communication and PLC can significantly reduce the need for hard wiring between feeder terminals.

Protection function (Multi level, most complete configuration)
Overcurrent protection: Three phase non directional overcurrent (50/51, low setting value+high setting value 50/51B), instantaneous overcurrent (50/51B), directional overcurrent (67).

Voltage protection: overvoltage (59), low voltage (27), residual voltage (59N), voltage imbalance (46), frequency protection (81O/U, low-frequency/high-frequency/frequency change rate ROCOF).
Thermal Overload Protection (49): Three phase thermal overload and current imbalance protection, supporting cable thermal overload model (TOL3Cab).
Automatic reclosing (79): supports synchronous and no voltage detection functions.
Circuit breaker failure protection (50BF): backup protection.
Motor protection: Negative sequence imbalance, locked rotor, load loss, reverse protection, start time monitoring, stall protection.
Capacitor protection: current imbalance protection, overvoltage protection, unbalanced current protection (COPFC).
Transformer protection (M-class specific): three-phase steady-state differential protection (including second harmonic braking and fifth harmonic braking), three-phase overcurrent, undirected grounding, restrictive grounding, transformer thermal overload, phase imbalance protection.
Fault recording: 16 analog input channels+16 switch channels, 50Hz system sampling frequency 2kHz, 60Hz system 2.4kHz, COMTRADE format, record the last 100 events.

Measurement and Power Quality
Measure three-phase current, zero sequence current, three-phase voltage, zero sequence voltage, frequency, active power, reactive power, power factor, and electrical energy (kWh/kvarh). Supports pulse counting input (7 pulse counting input ports). Support RTD/analog module expansion. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) measurement, with 3-second and 10 minute averages, ranging from 0% to 120%. Measure the harmonic components up to the 13th harmonic. Instantaneous voltage change monitoring (voltage sag, transient rise, instantaneous interruption), in accordance with IEC 61000-4-30 standard.

I/O configuration (Multi level)
Digital input: 25 DI (configurable as alarm, event, timing logic, contour step waiting logic, etc.), 2 trip circuit monitoring inputs.
Digital output: 19 DO (5 NO unipolar+5 NO/NC+2 signal outputs NO+1 self-monitoring output+others), a total of 19 outlet relays.
Analog input: 9 sensor channels (can be connected to Rogowski coils or voltage sensors)+9 matching transformer channels (CT1-CT5, VT1-VT4), channel 1 only supports sensors, and channel 6 only supports matching transformers.
Voltage input: 3 × 100-690 V AC (configurable).
Current input: 3 × 1 A/5 A (software optional).
All channels are provided with electrical isolation, which can effectively suppress common mode spike interference of the frequency converter.

[Communication Interface]
Three communication interfaces: 1 RS-232 local communication+2 dual port communication (can simultaneously connect to substation communication system and monitoring system).
Dual Ethernet ports: 100BASE-FX fiber optic or 1000BASE-T copper cable, supporting redundant ring topology, providing IEC 61850-8-1 GOOSE peer-to-peer tripping and MMS SCADA integration.
Supported protocols: IEC 61850 2nd edition (via SPA-ZC 400 adapter), Modbus TCP/RTU, SPA bus, LON bus, IEC 60870-5-103, DNP 3.0, Profibus DPV1 (via SPA-ZC 302 adapter).
