Description
Foxboro FBM242 RH916YZ | 16-Channel Relay Output TA
Product Introduction
RH916YZ is not the FBM242 module. It is the field termination assembly that completes a particular FBM242 output architecture.
In this configuration, the FBM242 supplies the control logic while RH916YZ provides 16 externally sourced SPDT/Form C relay outputs together with power distribution. That distinction matters when purchasing replacement hardware: an FBM242 without the correct TA may be electrically functional but still unsuitable for the installed field circuit.
Schneider’s current specification identifies RH916YZ as a Compact FBM242 termination assembly with power distribution. The assembly supersedes P0916YZ and P0916JZ.
The relay interface supports substantially different field-load ratings from the ‘s direct solid-state output configuration. Under the specified conditions, RH916YZ supports less than 30 VDC at 5 A, 125 VDC at 600 mA for resistive loads, 125 VDC at 250 mA for inductive loads, or up to 250 VAC at 5 A.

Key Technical Specifications
- Associated FBM:
- TA Part Number: RH916YZ
- Previous TA Numbers: P0916YZ / P0916JZ
- Number of output channels: 16
- Output type: Externally sourced SPDT/Form C relay
- Power distribution: Yes
- DC switching: Less than 30 VDC at 5 A maximum
- 125 VDC resistive load: 600 mA maximum
- 125 VDC inductive load: 250 mA maximum
- AC switching: Up to 250 VAC at 5 A maximum
- Group architecture: Two groups of eight channels
- Group isolation: Provided by the termination assembly
- Total simultaneous current: 12 A maximum for each group of eight channels
- Termination type: Compression
- TA cable type: Type 4
- Primary application: discrete output field interface
- Relay configuration: SPDT / Form C
These ratings are load-dependent. The 5 A figure should not be interpreted as a universal 5 A rating for every voltage and load category. In particular, the permitted current at 125 VDC is substantially lower and differs between resistive and inductive loads.
What Actually Does
The architecture can be understood as:
DCS → → Type 4 cable → → field power/load
The generates the discrete output command. The termination assembly then provides the relay-based field interface and power-distribution function.
The relay contacts are SPDT/Form C, allowing the field circuit to use normally open and normally closed contact arrangements according to the application wiring.
This makes particularly useful where the final field circuit requires relay contacts rather than the direct solid-state switching available from another termination configuration.
Power Distribution Architecture
The “with power distribution” designation is significant.
does not merely terminate the 16 relay outputs. It distributes external field power across the output channels while dividing the outputs into two groups of eight.
The total current is limited to 12 A per group of eight channels simultaneously. Therefore, even when an individual relay contact is rated for a higher current under a particular voltage/load condition, the aggregate group limit still applies.
For procurement and engineering review, calculate both:
- Individual channel load
- Aggregate current for channels 1–8
- Aggregate current for channels 9–16
Do not evaluate the TA only from the largest single-channel relay rating.
Relay Load Considerations
The ratings change significantly with load type and voltage.
For example:
- Below 30 VDC: up to 5 A
- 125 VDC resistive: up to 600 mA
- 125 VDC inductive: up to 250 mA
- 250 VAC: up to 5 A
The inductive-load limitation is especially important for solenoid valves, contactor coils, motor starters, and other loads that generate a voltage transient when de-energized.
External suppression should be evaluated according to the actual load and installation design. Do not assume that the or automatically provides every protection mechanism required for an inductive field device.
Module vs. TA
Keep these identifiers separate during procurement:
- 16-channel externally sourced discrete output module
- termination assembly with 16 SPDT/Form C relay outputs and power distribution
- P0916YZ: superseded designation
- P0916JZ: superseded designation
Schneider’s certification documentation also lists specifically as the Compact TA for 16 externally sourced relay outputs with power distribution.
This means a listing titled should be interpreted as a module + termination-assembly configuration, unless the seller explicitly states that only the TA is included.
Installation and Cable Interface
uses a Type 4 termination cable between the FBM/baseplate side and the termination assembly.
The termination assembly is a separate field-mounted component. The module is installed on the Foxboro I/A Series baseplate, while the TA provides the actual field-terminal interface.
