What is a microcontroller? How do you program a microcontroller?
Typically, we are designing circuits and connecting them to various other components, such as motors, LCDs, and LEDs , by providing the power supply used by that circuit. What does a microcontroller do when programming this circuit? Microcontrollers understand programs written in assembly language or C , which must be compiled into machine language called binary language (i.e., zeros and ones). The programmed file is stored on the computer’s hard drive or in the microcontroller’s memory. An assembler is used to translate the assembler into machine code. To write programs in assembly language, the programmer must have knowledge of the CPU or hardware. Low-level languages are used for cross-development. The hexadecimal system is used as a more efficient way to represent binary numbers, and CPUs operate very quickly when using binary language.
Today, we can use many different programming languages, such as C, Java , ORACLE , etc. These languages are called high-level languages. When writing programs in a high-level language, programmers do not need any hardware knowledge required for high-level application development. The compiler plays a crucial role in translating high-level programs into machine-level code because high-level languages are used in native development.
Here are some tools used in microcontroller programming:
Keil uVison
Code Editor
Assembler
C compiler

Keil Uvison:
Keil Uvison is free software that solves many problems for embedded developers. It’s an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that integrates a text editor for writing programs, a compiler, and the conversion of source code into hexadecimal files.

A guide to getting started with Keil Utility:
1. Click the Keil Vision icon on your desktop.
2. Click the “Project” menu in the title bar.
3. Save the project by typing the appropriate project name (without the extension) in your own folder in C:\ or D:\.
4. Then click the save button at the top.
Select the project’s components. That is, Atmel …
Click the + symbol if needed. Atmel was selected in this example.
5. Select AT89C51, as shown below.
6. Then click “OK”.
7. Then click “Yes” or “No”…, mainly “No”.
Your project is now ready to use.
Now double-click Target1, and you will get another option, “Source group 1”.
8. Click the File option in the menu bar, and then select “New”.
9. The next screen will display a text page.
10. Now start writing programs using “EMBEDDED C” or “ASM”.
For programs written in assembly language, we must save them with the extension “.Asm”; and for programs based on “EMBEDDED C”, we must save them with the extension “.C”.
11. Now, right-click “Source Group 1” and then click “Add File to Group Source”
12. Now, select the file extension provided when saving the file.
Click only once on the ” AD D” option.
Now press function key F7 to compile. If this happens, any errors will occur.
If there are no errors in the file, press Control + F5 simultaneously.
