Description
ABB TVOC-2-240 1SFA664001R1001 is an arc flash detection system produced by ABB, also known as an arc protection relay. It belongs to the ABB Arc Guard series and is the core equipment of ABB’s low-voltage switchgear arc protection solution. This product is designed based on over 35 years of experience in arc light detection and has now become the industry standard in major global markets.
[Product Positioning]
TVOC-2-240 is an arc detection system host (arc monitor) with an external circuit breaker, designed to detect arc faults in power systems, quickly cut off power when an arc occurs, and protect personnel and equipment safety. It is not an ordinary I/O module or controller, but a purely security protection specialized device.

ABB TVOC-2-240 Arc Monitor 1SFA664001R1001
[Core Function]
Arc detection: Real time detection of the light generated by the arc through optical sensors to determine whether it is a real arc fault.
Quick tripping: After identifying the arc, a tripping electrical signal is sent to nearby circuit breakers through quick IGBT contacts within 1 millisecond, disconnecting the power supply and extinguishing the arc.
Three stage workflow: detection (optical sensor capturing arc light) → recognition (determining whether the light intensity is an arc) → action (closing the tripping contact to cut off the power supply).
Multiple circuit breaker control: The host is equipped with 10 detector inputs, which can trip up to 3 circuit breakers with area selectivity.
Sensor Expansion: Up to 2 expansion units can be connected, expanding the number of light detectors to 30 and covering a larger range of switchgear.
Current sensing unit (CSU): An optional current sensing unit can be selected to prevent external factors such as strong light (such as sunlight) from triggering incorrectly. At the same time, it combines current signals for dual judgment, with a total tripping time of less than 2 milliseconds.
Human Machine Interface (HMI): Equipped with a detachable keyboard and a full-text display screen, it supports simultaneous processing of two HMIs (one installed on the cabinet door and the other on the device), and can view status information, error records, and activation records (including real-time clock date and time).
Communication integration: Supports Modbus RTU protocol, can be integrated into ABB AbilityTM Energy and Asset Manager system, and parameter settings can also be made through EkipConnect 3 configuration tool.

[Precautions for use]
This module is a dedicated security protection device and cannot replace ordinary controllers or I/O modules.
Electrical wiring must be completed before connecting to the cabinet during installation to ensure fast and reliable activation.
During RS-485 communication, it is necessary to correctly set the terminal resistance (120 Ω) according to the network topology.
Applications involving SIL-2 safety functions require debugging by engineers with functional safety qualifications.
Due to the predominance of inventory and dismantled parts in the market for this model, it is recommended to prioritize confirming the reliability of spare parts sources and verifying system compatibility (low/medium voltage switchgear arc protection system) during procurement.
Fiber optic sensors are not affected by electrical noise interference, but attention should be paid to the cable routing during installation to avoid excessive bending.
