Description

NTCS04 Control Module Termination Unit PC Board

NTCS04 (Control Module Termination Unit) is a PC board level terminal unit in the ABB Bailey INFI 90/Network 90 series control system. Its core function is to provide electrical connections, signal routing, and bus terminal matching between the controller module and the field slave I/O module. It is an indispensable signal junction node in the station level architecture of the INFI 90 system.

core positioning

NTCS04 itself does not execute any control algorithms, nor does it collect or output process signals. It is a printed circuit board installed on the Field Termination Panel (FTP), serving as a physical interface bridge between controller modules (such as IMMOM03/04), quick response controller (IMQRC01), multifunction controller (IMMFC03/04/05), multifunction processor (IMMFP01/02), and Bailey Control PC-90 processor and various slave I/O modules. At the same time, it provides a Station Serial Link interface, supporting daisy chain extension through NTCS02/04 or NTRL01/02/03 terminal units, and can cascade up to multiple terminal units.

Connected subordinate modules

NTCS04 provides wiring terminals for the following subordinate modules:

IMCIS02/IMQRS02: Control I/O slave modules, providing analog and digital field I/O
IMRIO02: Remote I/O Slave Module
IISAC01: Simulation Control Station
NDCS03: Digital Control Station
IMMFC03/04/05: Multi functional controller module
IMMFP01/02: Multi functional processor module
IMQRC01: Fast Response Controller
Bailey Control PC-90 processor
I/O and Signal Capability

NTCS04 provides wiring terminals for digital I/O signals, with a typical configuration of 4 digital input channels, supporting discrete signal access at 24VDC level. The onboard terminal block is used to connect on-site sensors, switches, actuators, and other equipment. Partial configurations also support the connection of analog signals. All I/O channels are electrically isolated from the system side, effectively blocking the impact of on-site grounding circuits and transient interference on the controller. The digital input supports SOE (Sequence of Events) timestamp function, meeting the requirements of process industry for fault tracing.

communication interface

NTCS04 provides a Station Serial Link for connecting controller modules and slave I/O modules in a daisy chain manner. This link operates based on the INFI-NET communication protocol, with a transmission rate of up to 10Mbps, and supports token passing communication. Through the serial port of NTCS04, terminal units such as NTCS02/04 or NTRL01/02/03 can be cascaded to expand the system’s I/O capacity. Equipped with RS-232-C serial ports (some versions have 2), it can be configured as DCE, DTE, non handshake or loopback mode for communication with the upper computer or terminal.

Electrical Characteristics

The working power supply is 24V DC, with a maximum current consumption of about 160mA (of which the LED indicator light consumes about 10mA). Communication signal voltage+24/125V. The module implements electrical isolation of no less than 2.5kV between the bus side and the field side, with overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection, and surge protection. Automatically detect the electrical ID of the module when powered on, and refuse to enter the running state when it does not match the system configuration, to prevent communication or signal errors caused by mismatches.

Physical specifications

The dimensions are approximately 20.3cm (width) x 2.5cm (height) x 17.8cm (depth), which is 8.0 inches x 1.0 inches x 7.0 inches. The weight is approximately 330g (0.73 pounds). Adopting a standard printed circuit board design, it is fixed and installed in the on-site terminal panel (FTP) of the INFI 90 system through screws. The onboard LED indicator lights display real-time power status, communication activity, and fault conditions, making it easy to quickly locate problems on site. Supports hot swapping and can be replaced without interrupting INFI-NET communication when the system is powered on. The working temperature range meets the requirements of industrial sites, with a protection level of IP20.

Typical Applications

NTCS04 is mainly used in brownfield sites such as power plants, petrochemicals, pulp and paper, metallurgy, water treatment, etc. that are still operating ABB INFI 90/Network 90 systems. In these scenarios, it ensures deterministic synchronous communication between the HMI screen updates, alarm propagation, and historical data recording of the operator station and the on-site control layer. When expanding the system, the daisy chain capability of NTCS04 can easily increase the number of slave I/O modules without the need to re plan the entire station level architecture. It can also be used in hybrid system configurations that require the Bailey Control PC-90 processor to be connected to an INFI 90 network.
