Description
ABB 1TGE120011R1001 MNS iS Motor and Feed Control Unit Module
[Product Positioning]
1TGE120011R1001 is the core control module in ABB MNS iS intelligent low-voltage switchgear system, belonging to the motor and feed control unit (MControl) series, and is the subsequent configuration version (R1001) of 1TGE120011R1000. Model interpretation: 1TGE is the prefix for ABB MNS iS series products, 120011 represents the type of motor and feed control unit, and R1001 is the specific configuration version. This device integrates motor protection, feed management, and communication monitoring into a single plug-in module, which is a digital integrated alternative to traditional independent motor protection relays, feeder protection devices, and hard wired control circuits. Some channels label it as “robot drive power module” or “high-voltage inverter accessory controller”, which is an unofficial term or information confusion in specific application scenarios. Its essence is still the core control unit of MNS iS distribution system.

ABB 1TGE120011R1001 Module
[Core Function]
This module is responsible for motor start/stop control, motor protection, power supply line management, and remote communication monitoring tasks. Built in dual processor architecture: one processor is dedicated to real-time protection algorithms (overcurrent detection, thermal model calculation), while the other processor manages communication, HMI interaction, and event recording, without competing for resources. The protection function blocks are independent of each other, each with its own set of fixed values and data records. In addition to protection, measurement, control, and status monitoring, it also provides rich PLC programmable logic functions, which can integrate the automation and sequential logic control required for MNS iS switchgear into one module, greatly reducing the need for on-site hard wiring.
[Protection Function]
Overcurrent protection: Three phase overcurrent (50/51), using timed or IDMT inverse time characteristics for low setting segments, timed or instantaneous characteristics for high setting segments, and timed or instantaneous characteristics for instantaneous periods. Support 15 optional IDMT inverse time curves to ensure selective coordination with upstream fuses.
Ground fault protection: Non directional ground fault (50N/51N), low setting range, high setting range, transient period. Suitable for effective grounding, resonant grounding (arc suppression coil), and low resistance grounding networks.
Thermal Overload Protection (49): Three phase motor thermal overload protection, supporting cable thermal overload model (TOL3Cab), with thermal model accuracy of ± 2% of full scale. Optional PTC input to monitor motor winding temperature.
Rotor blockage protection: detects motor blockage status and triggers tripping.
Phase imbalance protection (46): Current imbalance protection.
Underload protection: Motor light load operation detection.
Reverse phase protection: power phase sequence error detection.
Feed management: Monitor the status of feed lines and optimize energy allocation.
Short circuit protection: Quickly cut off fault current to ensure equipment safety.
Bypass contactor control: After the start-up is completed, the bypass contactor will automatically close, short-circuit the thyristor/contactor and exit operation, reducing heat loss.
Soft start control
Startup modes: voltage ramp startup, current limiting startup, torque control startup, and jump startup (used to overcome static friction).
Soft parking: The voltage gradually decreases to achieve smooth parking, especially suitable for applications such as water pumps, effectively preventing damage to pipelines and equipment caused by the “water hammer” effect.
Initial voltage setting: The starting voltage level of the startup curve can be set (30% to 70% of the rated voltage).
Current limiting function: The starting current is limited to 2-5 times the rated current of the motor, which can effectively prevent overcurrent tripping during starting.
Measurement and Monitoring
Measure three-phase current, zero sequence current, three-phase voltage, zero sequence voltage, frequency, and power factor.
Supports pulse counting input.
Display electrical quantity information as a single value.
Measurement accuracy: Current/voltage ± 0.5%.
Built in event recorder, recording event codes with time stamps, setting values, and fault waveform data.
Support fault location function.
Realize remote monitoring, data collection, and alarm functions through digital communication interfaces to improve system management efficiency.
[Communication Interface]
Profibus: Supports Profibus DP communication.
Modbus: Supports Modbus RTU/TCP.
Ethernet/IP: Supports Ethernet communication.
IEC 61850: Supports IEC 61850 communication for easy integration into modern automation networks.
Multiple protocols can work simultaneously without conflicting with each other. Remote monitoring, data collection, and alarm functions can be achieved through communication interfaces, allowing real-time transmission of process information to process operators and electrical information to electrical workers, achieving proactive maintenance.

Auxiliary power supply: Powered by the internal bus of the MNS iS bus frame, no external power supply is required.
Typical power consumption: Low power design.
Fanless design, no electrolytic capacitors (Rev3.0 and above versions), normal coating coated board, maintenance free long-term operation.
Programming and Configuration
Use ABB system configuration tools for protection setting, PLC logic editing, and MIMIC screen configuration. Support offline simulation verification, and confirm the correctness of protection settings and logic before powering on. Supports programming in the IEC 61131-3 standard functional block language. Function block naming options: ANSI device number, IEC symbol, or ABB naming. All fixed values can be modified through PC.
Self diagnosis and predictive maintenance
The device continuously self monitors internal faults, channel anomalies, and configuration drift, and reports its health status directly to the main controller. Record contact thermal stress, circuit breaker wear cycle, and VT/CT integrity to provide data support for predictive maintenance. Continuously self check the internal electronic components and software operation of the relay, and automatically lock all protection and output contacts in case of internal faults.
The intelligent sensors of the MNS iS system can measure current, voltage, and primary plug temperature. The data concentrator collects relevant information from the switchgear and starter/feeder circuits to achieve proactive maintenance.

【 Important Notice 】
According to ABB’s official technical bulletin, the 1TGE120011R1000/R1001 Rev1.0 version contains electrolytic capacitors internally, with a design lifespan of approximately 10-12 years. For MNS iS switchgear that has been in operation for more than 10-15 years, ABB recommends replacing it with Rev3.0 or higher versions (excluding electrolytic capacitors). At present, there are still suppliers in the market selling inventory of this model and providing a one-year warranty, but it has entered the shutdown period. If there is a need for replacement, it is recommended to contact ABB authorized distributors to confirm the latest replacement solution. Some channels label this model as “Robot Drive Power Module” or “High Voltage Inverter Accessory Controller”, which is an unofficial term for specific application scenarios. Its core positioning is still the motor and feed control unit of the MNS iS distribution system.
