Description

ROLLS-ROYCE RRDIO15 I/O ALARM MODULE

RRDIO15 is a remote control and alarm module specifically designed by Rolls-Royce of the United Kingdom for the marine industry. It is one of the core I/O components of its marine automation control system. The module is typically used in conjunction with the RRAIO16 analog input-output module, together forming a complete signal acquisition and alarm output solution in the Rolls-Royce Marine automation system. It is widely integrated into Callosum as well as the latest NautIQ series marine automation platform.

In terms of functional positioning, the RRDIO15 is a digital input-output and alarm module primarily used for receiving and transmitting various digital signals, and for real-time monitoring and alarming of all critical equipment and systems onboard the vessel. The digital input channels are used to collect status signals from field equipment, such as motor running and stopped states, valve open and closed position signals, pressure and level switch alarms, and operator button commands. The digital output channels are used to send control commands to field equipment, such as driving alarm indicator lights, starting or stopping auxiliary equipment, and so on. The module also features comprehensive remote monitoring and alarm capabilities, allowing ship owners or operators to monitor vessel operating status in real time through the system. Once a fault or abnormal condition is detected, the module immediately triggers alarm output to notify crew members to take timely measures. Alarm signals can be uploaded to the bridge alarm panel, the engine room monitoring system, and the NautIQ Foresight cloud analytics platform, supporting predictive maintenance strategies.

Regarding structural design and environmental adaptability, the RRDIO15 adopts a rugged and durable design philosophy. The enclosure is made of aluminum extrusion material combined with a heavy-duty steel chassis, achieving an IP40 protection rating, effectively dustproof. The operating temperature range covers minus 40 degrees Celsius to plus 70 degrees Celsius, enabling long-term stable operation in extreme marine environments such as high temperature, low temperature, severe vibration, and salt spray corrosion. This design makes it particularly suitable for large ocean-going oil tankers, cargo vessels, ferries, and various marine engineering equipment. The module supports DIN rail mounting, features hot-swap capability, and can be replaced while the system is running without shutdown, greatly improving maintenance efficiency. Each channel is equipped with an LED status indicator light, displaying input and output status in real time for easy commissioning and troubleshooting. Electrical isolation is provided between channels as well as between channels and the backplane, effectively suppressing electromagnetic interference.

In terms of system integration, the RRDIO15 can communicate with and control a variety of vessel systems and equipment, offering high integration and flexibility to meet the diverse needs of different vessels. It communicates with the central controller via the S800 fieldbus, ensuring reliable and real-time data transmission. The module can be configured as a redundant I/O pair, ensuring uninterrupted acquisition and control of critical signals to guarantee safe vessel operation.

Related modules in the same series as the RRDIO15 include the RRAIO16 analog input-output alarm module, the RRADI16 analog acquisition interface card, and the RRRLY8 relay alarm module, which together form the complete I/O product matrix of the Rolls-Royce Marine automation control system, meeting full-scenario needs from propulsion control to energy management onboard ships. As Rolls-Royce accelerates the digital and green transformation of its automation product line from 2025 to 2026, high-reliability interface modules like the RRDIO15 are being deeply integrated into the brand-new mtu NautIQ marine automation suite, serving as the data acquisition front-end for digital twin technology, helping ship owners achieve a full transition from scheduled maintenance to predictive maintenance.
