ABB SYNC HROTACT synchronous equipment product line
Module positioning
This product is a variant of ABB SYNC HROTACT 6 (sixth generation synchronous device), with the core function of achieving precise synchronous parallel operation between multiple generators or generator sets. Compared with the fifth generation SYNC HROTACT 5, the sixth generation has significant improvements in parameter capacity and functionality. It is not a regular controller or I/O module, but a dedicated synchronous detection and closing control device.
■ Core functions
Simultaneous detection: Real time monitoring of the voltage amplitude, frequency, and phase angle difference between the unit to be connected and the bus, to determine whether the parallel conditions are met.
Closing control: When the synchronous conditions are met, an automatic closing pulse is issued to close the circuit breaker and complete the parallel operation.
Parameter storage: Up to 20 sets of parameters can be stored (SyncHROTACT 6 has increased from 7 sets in the fifth generation to 20 sets), and a single device can manage up to 20 different circuit breaker parallel points.
Digital I/O: Digital input and output can be freely configured, and all I/O are electrically isolated.
Communication integration: Supports bus control systems such as MODBUS and Profibus, greatly reducing on-site wiring and auxiliary relays.
Frequency adaptation: Supports 50 Hz, 60 Hz, and 16 2/3 Hz.
The synchronization process is divided into four stages: measurement (Δ U, slip, phase difference) → matching (adjusting voltage and frequency) → monitoring (comparing current value with set maximum value) → command generation (calculating lead angle and issuing closing command).
■ Safety and Standards
⊙ Complies with IEC 61508 SIL2 functional safety level
⊙ Compliant with IEC 61850 Ed.2 communication standard
Robust design, suitable for high reliability power generation scenarios
Since its launch, over 22000 units have been sold, equivalent to approximately 10% of the global synchronous device market share
All main generators of the Three Gorges Dam in China are equipped with SYNC HROTACT synchronization devices
■ Differences from other models
SYN5202A-Z V277 3BHB006714R0277- Same series, different parameter configurations (V277 variant)
SYN5201A-Z V217 3BHB006714R0217- Fifth Generation SyncHROTACT 5, up to 7 sets of parameters
SYN5200A-Z V217 3BHB006713R0217 —— SYNCHROTACT 5, Earlier versions
SYN5302A-Z V217 3BHB006716R0217- Same series but different models
Typical application scenarios
⊙ Parallel operation of generators in thermal power plants during the same period
The generators of the hydropower station are synchronized in parallel (the main generators of the Three Gorges Dam are all equipped with this series)
Load sharing scenario where multiple generator sets operate in parallel
Upgrading projects that require the replacement of old SYNC HROTACT systems or contemporaneous devices from other vendors
The parallel connection between the generator and the main line during operation on the island of the self owned power plant
Electrical and Environmental
Power supply: Unified power supply from DCS backplane, typical 24V DC
Working temperature: -20 ° C~+60 ° C (industrial grade wide temperature design)
Protection level: IP20 (indoor installation)
Installation method: DIN rail installation, compatible with ABB standard rack
■ Associated accessories
LDSYN-101 3BHE005555R0101 (synchronous related board)
Engineering tool: ABB synchronous device configuration software
■ Precautions for use
This module is a dedicated synchronous device and cannot replace ordinary DCS controllers or I/O modules.
When replacing, it is necessary to confirm that the model is completely identical (3BHB006715R0217/SYN5202A-Z V217). Different variants have different parameter configurations and cannot be mixed.
This model has been discontinued, and the market is dominated by inventory and disassembled parts. It is recommended to prioritize confirming the reliability of spare parts sources and verifying the specific units and systems that are compatible when purchasing.
For applications involving SIL2 safety functions, debugging must be carried out by engineers with functional safety qualifications.
The parameter settings of the synchronization device (voltage difference, frequency difference, phase angle difference threshold) need to be set item by item according to the characteristics of the on-site generator and circuit breaker, and cannot be directly copied from other unit parameters.
During the synchronization process, the other channel remains open to ensure reliability (dual channel redundancy design).
