Description
ABB UAD142A01 3BHE012551R0001
UAD142A01 3BHE01251R0001 is a 16 channel digital output module (relay type) produced by ABB, belonging to the ABB Symphony/Advanced I/O series. It is an ABB Advance Controller 450/AC 460 and Symphony ™ The core I/O components of a distributed control system (DCS). This module is widely deployed in traditional but still operational industrial automation platforms such as power generation, oil and gas, pulp and paper, and heavy industry.

[Product Positioning]
UAD142 is the basic series of 16 channel digital output modules, A01 is the variant code, representing A-type (SPST-NO, normally open) relay contacts. This module is a passive output module designed with electromechanical relays (non solid state) specifically for high integrity process automation and can be used for critical task applications. It is a core component of the INFI 90 platform and also one of the migration paths for the Symphony Plus system.
[Core Function]
16 independent isolated relay outputs, each channel can independently switch loads up to 2A.
The output type is electromechanical relay, type A (single pole single throw normally open) contact.
Contact rating: 2A@250V AC or 2A@125V DC (resistive load).
Maximum switch voltage: 250V AC/125V DC.
Minimum load: 10mA (ensuring contact reliability).
Electrical isolation between the on-site side and the system side: 2500V RMS.
Each channel is equipped with a green LED status indicator light for visual confirmation of output status during troubleshooting.
Module level normal operation LED indicator light.
Supports dual redundant I/O configuration and can be used in conjunction with redundant controllers.
Hot swappable (in supported systems), without the need to shut down the entire rack.
[Technical Specifications]
Power supply method: Symphony backplane power supply (± 15V,+5V logic).
Typical power consumption: about 5W.
Working temperature: 0 ° C to+60 ° C.
Mechanical lifespan: More than 10 operations.
Electrical lifespan: More than 10 times of full load operation.
Relay response time: approximately 10ms (mechanical relay, non solid state).
Certification standards: IEC 60255, EN 61000-6 (EMC), UL 508.
[Installation Method]
Installed on Symphony I/O subracks, commonly used subrack models include TK371 (standard 8-slot I/O rack) and TK372 (supporting redundant expansion versions).
Typical application scenarios
Motor starter and contactor control.
Electromagnetic valve drive in hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
Alarm horn and visual indicator control.
For example, in the boiler control system of a coal-fired power plant, when the DCS logic determines that the soot blower needs to be started, UAD142A01 powers on a specific output channel and closes the relay contacts to start the soot blower motor sequence.
Due to the switchable output of the relay between 24~250V AC/DC, it is particularly suitable for industrial field environments with mixed voltages.
【 Supporting and Associated Modules 】
Same series input module: UAI142A01 (16 digital inputs for feedback signals).
Communication module: UAA326A04 (serial communication module, used for Modbus integration).
Remote rack interface: FBI142 (fiber optic bus interface).
Compatible controllers: Advant controller AC 410/AC 450/AC 460, Symphony Plus.
Engineering tools: Composer (legacy system), Control Builder in System 800xA (for Symphony Plus).
[Precautions for use]
Do not switch inductive loads without suppression measures (such as DC coils without flyback diodes), as this can cause arcing and lead to contact corrosion.
Each channel load must not exceed 2A, otherwise the relay will fail prematurely.
The relay is a mechanical output with wear and a response delay of approximately 10ms, which cannot be expected based on the characteristics of solid-state output.
It is recommended to install external fuses on each output line to prevent short circuits.
Output wiring should be separated from analog/signal cables to avoid electromagnetic interference.
In redundant systems, it is necessary to verify whether the main module and backup module are correctly mapped in the control logic.
Terminal tightening torque: 0.6 Nm (according to ABB specifications).
