Description
SPDSI22 is a 16 channel digital input module (DI) produced by ABB, belonging to the Symphony Plus I/O HR series (Harmony Rack), and can also be used in ABB 800xA DCS distributed control systems. It is originally from Sweden.
The core positioning is to collect and convert on-site switch signals (such as relay contacts, limit switches, button status, etc.) into digital signals that can be processed by the system. It is one of the most basic I/O modules in DCS systems.

ABB SPDSI22 Digital Input PLC Module
In terms of main functions, the first is switch quantity acquisition, providing 16 independent digital input channels, supporting 24V DC input signals, and each channel has photoelectric isolation to prevent signal crosstalk. The second is status monitoring, which detects the on/off status of on-site equipment in real time and reports status changes through LED indicator lights or system communication. The third is communication transmission, supporting Modbus RTU and IEC 60870-5-103 protocols, which can exchange data with upper level controllers or SCADA systems. The fourth is fault diagnosis, which has self diagnostic functions such as wire breakage detection and over range alarm. When there is an abnormality, it will be prompted through indicator lights or system alarms.
In terms of key parameters, the input voltage is 24V DC, and the isolation voltage between channels is not less than 250V AC/DC. The protection level is IP54, and the working temperature range is from minus 25 degrees Celsius to plus 70 degrees Celsius. Some versions support from minus 40 degrees Celsius to plus 70 degrees Celsius. The module adopts a compact industrial grade design, supports DIN rail installation, with dimensions of approximately 120mm x 80mm x 30mm, and weighs approximately 0.2 to 0.4 kilograms.
Typical application scenarios include valve status feedback and switch position monitoring in power plant DCS systems, pump start stop signal acquisition in chemical plants, and switch logic control in various industrial automation production lines. Usually used in conjunction with SPDSO14 (digital output), SPFEC12 (analog input), SPASO11 (analog output) and other modules to form a complete I/O subsystem.
It should be noted that some information online describes SPDSI22 as an analog input module, lightning arrester, or main processor unit, which does not comply with ABB’s official definition. From the cross validation of multiple industrial control channels, SPDSI22 is clearly a 16 channel digital input module, belonging to ABB Symphony Plus or 800xA platform. If you are doing project selection or fault replacement, it is recommended to confirm whether the system is Symphony Plus or 800xA DCS, which is the key to determining whether the model is compatible.
