Description
ABB REC670 1MRK000008-MB Bay Control Panel RELION ® Series interval control protection panel
[Product Positioning]
REC670 1MRK000008-MB is ABB RELION ® The Bay Control Panel in the series belongs to the core bay level equipment of ABB substation automation system. It integrates multifunctional protection, control logic, communication gateway, and local human-machine interface, and is directly installed on the switch cabinet or control cabinet panel. It is designed for power system scenarios that require high reliability protection and interval control, and is a digital alternative to traditional electromechanical relays and independent protection devices.

ABB REC670 Bay Control Panel 1MRK000008-MB
[Core Function]
This panel simultaneously undertakes the tasks of feeder protection, transformer protection, busbar protection, motor protection, and circuit breaker control. Built in dual processor architecture: one processor is dedicated to ultra fast protection algorithms (with a trip time of less than 16 milliseconds), while the other processor manages communication, HMI interaction, and data recording, without preempting resources. Supporting high-speed overcurrent, distance, differential, and arc flash detection, combined with real-time waveform analysis and event recording, it can provide complete pre – and post fault waveforms for forensic analysis after a fault occurs.
I/O and Communication
Analog input: Supports the connection of current transformers (CT) and voltage transformers (VT) through hardened analog input, providing high-precision electrical quantity acquisition.
Digital input/output: Processing circuit breaker control signals, alarm signals, and interlock logic.
Communication interface: Dual Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbps, supporting redundant ring topology), RS-485 serial port, IRIG-B time synchronization interface.
Supporting protocols: IEC 61850 2nd edition (including GOOSE peer tripping and MMS SCADA integration) Modbus TCP、DNP3、IEC 60870-5-103。 Redundant Ethernet ports enable ring network resilience, with built-in IRIG-B/SNTP time synchronization to ensure precise alignment of all station events.
[Physical Specifications]
Dimensions: 222 mm x 240 mm x 185 mm (width x height x depth), net weight approximately 3.2 kg.
Installation method: Embedded or surface panel installation, compatible with standard switchgear openings.
Front panel protection level: IP20 (compatible with the cabinet to meet the environmental level requirements of IEC 61850).
Working temperature range: -25 ° C to+55 ° C, storage temperature -40 ° C to+85 ° C.
Auxiliary power supply: 48-250 V DC/100-240 V AC, typical power consumption is about 8W.
Fanless design, no electrolytic capacitors, no moving parts, maintenance free long-term operation.
HMI and Local Operations
The panel is equipped with a local display and operation interface, allowing operators to directly view protection status, fault records, and trigger signals at the interval layer without relying on remote SCADA. Support alarm management, event record query, and on-site parameter modification. The front panel is equipped with a RUN/ERROR/COMM three color LED status indicator light, which can be used to determine the fault area from a distance.
Programming and Configuration
Use ABB PCM600 (Protection Control Manager) or RCT (Release Configuration Tool) 3.0 or above to configure protection logic and import/export IEC 61850 SCL. Supporting complete IEC 61850 configuration standardization, the protection logic template can be deployed to the entire fleet, reducing debugging errors and shortening deployment time by about 40%. Support offline simulation verification, and confirm the correctness of protection settings and logic before powering on.
Self diagnosis and predictive maintenance
The device continuously self monitors internal faults, CT saturation, and configuration drift, and reports its health status directly to the control center. Record contact thermal stress, circuit breaker wear cycle, and VT/CT integrity to provide data support for predictive maintenance, transforming passive maintenance into active maintenance.
[Typical Application]
Transmission substation: provides distance and overcurrent backup protection for lines of 69 kV and above, seamlessly coordinates with upstream reclosing and downstream feeders, and achieves selective isolation.
Industrial microgrid: Bus differential protection for scenarios such as data centers and semiconductor factories, detecting internal faults before arc flash energy reaches a dangerous level.
Renewable energy grid connection: Anti islanding, vector offset, and ROCOF (rate of change) protection for wind farms, photovoltaic power plants, and offshore platforms to ensure stable reconnection after islanding events.
Distribution network: feeder protection and control for ring main unit and ring net cage, replacing traditional fuse+relay solutions.
Certification and Standards
Compliant with IEC 60255, IEEE C37.90, CE, UL, ATEX (optional) standards. Compliant with the IEC 61000 series electromagnetic compatibility standards. HS code 853701190. Origin Sweden (ABB Raylion product line is currently owned by Hitachi Energy, but still supplied under the ABB brand).
Comparison with the same series
REC670 1MRK000008-MB is the Bay Control Panel version, emphasizing the integration of local HMI and bay level.
REC670 1MRK000008-NB is the control system input card version, focusing on I/O expansion.
REC670 1MRK000008-PB is a pure protective relay version without a panel HMI, suitable for remote centralized monitoring scenarios.
The electrical cores of the three are consistent and can be selected as needed.
