Description

ABB G2010A10.4ST Industrial Operator Panel / HMI

Introduction to ABB G2010A10.4ST GOP2 Industrial Operator Panel/HMI

ABB G2010A10.4ST is a 10.4-inch graphical human-machine interface control panel in the ABB GOP (Graphic Operator Panel) series, which is a classic HMI product for process control and equipment monitoring in ABB’s industrial automation product line. It mainly serves as the front-end operation and monitoring terminal for ABB AC800M/Advant Master DCS systems and other ABB automation controllers, providing operators with intuitive graphical process monitoring, parameter adjustment, alarm management, and control operation interfaces.

core positioning

The panel itself does not execute control logic or collect on-site process signals, but exists as a “human-machine interaction window” – presenting the operating data inside the DCS or PLC controller to the operator in the form of graphics, trends, alarms, etc., while receiving touch commands from the operator (such as starting and stopping equipment, modifying set values, confirming alarms, etc.) and issuing them to the controller for execution. Compared with ABB’s newer CP600 series HMI, G2010A belongs to the previous generation GOP2 product line and is positioned more towards deep integration with the AC800M DCS system. It is still widely used in a large number of old DCS projects that are still in operation.

Main functional features

Graphic process monitoring: supports dynamic process graphic display, allowing operators to visually view process information such as pipeline flow diagrams, equipment status diagrams, valve opening, motor operation status, etc. through the panel. All graphic elements can be refreshed in real time to reflect the actual working conditions on site.

Faceplate function: Equipped with standard Faceplate components, it can display all relevant parameters (speed, current, temperature, status) of a single device (such as pump, valve, motor) on one screen. Operators can complete monitoring and operation without flipping pages, greatly improving operational efficiency.

Alarm and Event Management: Supports functions such as alarm grouping, priority sorting, alarm confirmation, and alarm flashing. When the DCS system generates an alarm, the G2010A panel prompts the operator with prominent colors and sound, and supports viewing of alarm summaries and querying of historical alarms.

Trend display: Supports real-time trend and historical trend display, allowing operators to directly view the change curves of key parameters (such as temperature, pressure, flow) on the panel, making it easy to quickly determine the trend of process fluctuations.

Parameter setting and control: Operators can directly modify the set values issued by DCS through the touch screen (such as temperature setting, flow setting), perform start stop operations, reset operations, etc. All operations have permission management and operation records.

Multi language support: Supports switching between multiple languages, suitable for cross-border projects or multilingual operating environments.

Start self check: Automatically check the communication connection with the DCS controller when powered on, and provide clear prompts in case of communication abnormalities to prevent operators from misjudging the on-site status due to communication failures.

Comparison with products in the same series

CP600 eco: ABB’s new generation entry-level HMI has stronger performance, supports multi touch and Ethernet communication, but needs to be used in conjunction with Automation Builder software, which is not as direct as G2010A integration with the old AC800M system. The core advantage of G2010A lies in its native integration with AC800M DCS, without the need for additional gateways or protocol conversions. It has extremely high compatibility with spare parts in the renovation of old projects.

PP845 (3BSE042235R1): Both are ABB 10.4-inch HMI, but belong to the Panel 800 series, aimed at machine control scenarios, and support more communication protocols (such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP). G2010A is oriented towards process control, and the two have different application scenarios.

G2012A: The 12.1-inch version in the GOP2 series has a larger display area, making it suitable for scenarios where more screen information needs to be monitored simultaneously. The 10.4-inch G2010A achieves a balance between panel opening size and cost, and is the most common size in the AC800M standard panel.

Typical application scenarios

Power industry: The local monitoring panel of the generator set DCS operation station allows operators to view the operating status of boilers, turbines, and generators and perform emergency operations from the machine.
Chemical industry: DCS operation panels for reaction vessels, distillation towers, and storage tank areas, replacing traditional instrument panels to achieve centralized monitoring.
Metallurgical industry: The operator interface of the DCS system for rolling mills and continuous casting machines displays key parameters such as rolling force, temperature, and speed.
Water treatment: The process monitoring panel of the pump station and dosing system allows operators to start and stop equipment on site and view water quality parameters.
Paper industry: The operation panel of paper machine DCS displays process parameters such as vehicle speed, tension, temperature, etc.
